Overview of the city

Located in the southeast part of Hyogo Prefecture, Sanda has a total area of 210.22 km2. The surrounding area is quite mountainous, with a series of ridges rising from 500 to 700 m above sea level stretching from the north to the east. The Sanda Plain containing the urban district and farms is located to the southeast.
The Muko River flows from the area west of the city to the southeast. It waters the fertile agricultural land to create one of the prefecture's primary grain belts. The climate is of the Seto Inland Sea type, with annual rainfall of roughly 1,500 mm. This is the ideal amount for agriculture.
