Lake
Senjo-ji, the dam's catchment basin, was named after nearby
Mt. Senjo-ji, which towers over the scene. Parks and lakeside
roads have been built nearby for the recreational use of local
residents. |

The 12 Empresses Graves (Memorial Towers)

The
large tower in the middle is said to be a memorial tower for
an empress beloved by the emperor, while the surrounding towers
commemorate ladies in waiting who became Buddhist nuns. |

Kazan-in

This
Buddhist temple is a sacred site honoring Kannon, the goddess
of mercy.It is not one of the 33 official holy temples of the
kansai area, but one of the additional 3 temples frequently
visited by pilgrims, becouse of a special connection with the
emperor Kazan. The other two are Gankei-ji temple of Kyoto and
Hokki-in of Nara. |
